MAEN LLIA

Maen Llia, a broad but narrow stone - probably a waymarker OS Map 160 Brecon Beacons

OS ref SN92419 19193

This is an impressive, isolated stone approximately 13 feet tall and with an equally wide girth but deceptively slim.

Legend has it that the stone goes down to water as the cock crows.

With its markedly pointed shape, we regard this as a stone age way marker, almost like our countryside finger posts.

Maen Madoc is just a short distance away, back towards Ystradfelte, lying along a track, which is in fact Sarn Helen, the Roman road, through forestry commission.

Proceeding further along the road are beautiful views, but you will need reliable brakes to make the steep descent!
