What is FAC?

The Fife Arts Cooperative (FAC) consists of a group of visual and applied artists, writers, performers and musicians living in and around the small town of Newburgh in Fife.

FAC was constituted in March 2002 to develop a broad based arts programme in Newburgh, and to bring together local people involved in the creative disciplines, and interested parties, to look at how such a programme could be developed and implemented in this environment to the social and economic benefit of both practitioners and the local community.

Arts Programme

Artistic Programme

A varied and stimulating programme spanning the spectrum of creative disciplines aimed at creating a dialogue between practitioners and the local community.

Educational Programme

One that engages all ages and groups. Expanding on the programme of workshops and classes already in progress. Exploring the link between art and life.

Visiting Artists Programme

The aim is to bring new visitors to Newburgh and to engage the local community in the programme with a range of artists from established high profile to new and emerging - this can be facilitated in collaboration with local art colleges.

The Spire Arts Centre

Over the last 2 years the national arts charity The WASPS Trust has been raising funding to acquire the former Town Hall, Town House and Corn Exchange in the High Street in Newburgh and convert and refurbish the building to incorporate 10-12 artists' studios and a large communal area for activities and events.

For the past 2 years FAC have had access to a large shop space next to the Old Town Hall to run classes, events and workshops.
At present (March 2005) The Wasps Trust has secured 75% of the total funds required to complete the acquisition and conversion. It is expected that the remaining 25% of funds will be secured by April/May 2005. The project is currently scheduled for completion by the end of February 2006.
