News and Aims 8th January 2008 - With the new season approaching the team has been making plans. Due to a new team member due to be born any time now a different approach to this seasons racing has been envisaged. This will involve swapping to the S class mini se7en which involves less engine preparation due to it being a 1275cc mostly standard unit. This is hoped to reduce preparation time compared to that required for the 1000cc high reving units and enable more track time and less cost due to reduced re-builds and less expensive parts. The bottom half has already been sorted with work required on the head and gearbox. Once completed the unit should hopefully be in the car all year. It is also easier to get power from the bigger displacement unit. Whilst the power output is in a similar or even slightly more the standard parts weigh alot more, combine with the gearing means the cars are slightly slower in acceleration but have a similar top speed. This means ths S'class are less competative than the ordinary seven as the slower tracks (Brands, Oulton). Better tracks suited to the cars power delivery will be the fast tracks like Snetterton and Thruxton. There have been only 3 S class cars in the field since its inception 2 seasons ago but they have already proved that they can be competitive at the faster tracks and are more than capable of competiting in the middle of the pack at most tracks. Tristien Knight has consitently been finishing just outside the top ten and could have finished 12 in the championship or higher if he had gone to the last 2 rounds at Pembry. A few changes are required to the car to make it S class spec and these include the mandatory Spax Dampers CSX's allround, a specific exhaust and intake manifold and a new rear anti-roll bar. The rear dampers are needed anyway as the ones currently being use could do with being replaced. The rest of the new parts are an added expense but compared with some of the engine parts for a 1000 cc unit they can be said to be cheap. Spax are also doing a deal for members of the Mini se7en club so we get them at a substantially reduced price. So with a new baby, new class, a new year and a new challenge the team is looking forward to the new season. The aim for this year would be for another top 10 finish in the Championship. Bring it on!!!
6th August -After a cracked water pump housing put the car out of the Donington race the team has decided to concentrate on the main engine and not worry to much about the damage to the passenger side of the car. The engine will be ready in time for Brands
Update 19th July - Welcome to all those that have
come to have a look at the website after seeing the feature on the July 2007
Mini Se7en newsletter. It was nicely timed as the website has just been updated
and improved with the addition of a gallery and more info available in the
calendar sections. Just to remind everyone that Fantasy League is just starting off and to get your forms in quick (Available on the last page of the Mini se7en Newsletter or from Mini7.co.uk web site). Any one that is brave enough to choose me is welcome to come and sit in the car and have their picture taken in the car or next to there name on the car providing it is not at a busy time during the day. These are usually up to an hour before Qualifying and Racing. If you send me a copy of the pictures I will endeavour to put them in the gallery. Jan 2007 - After a disappointing
2006, better preparation and scraping of some of the stressed components a
better 2007 season is envisaged. With one of the top names
leaving and continual improvement in the car (and driver) podium finish is
the aim for this year. When the car has stayed in
one piece it has been quick and a few more tweaks would hope to see it finish
regularly in the top 10. On a few of the tracks I go well at, hopefully I
will be surprisingly quick and scaring the lead cars. |
