LIVE AND DANGEROUS - Dublin August 97

Looking at these, there's more pictures of Guinness than there are of anything else!

We were in Dublin because we'd always wanted to go there, because of it's association with Philip Lynott, and Sue Peters of the Thin Lizzy Supporters Club had arranged for us to meet Philomena "Phyllis" Lynott...it was also because Paul was about to get married and it seemed like a good way to start celebrations early.
By the way, the Thin Lizzy Supporters Club needs all Thin Lizzy fans to join up NOW.

"Forget lunch - let's drink..."
Pictured are Ray, Stu and Paul. Sadly Dave couldn't make it. This means we'll have to all come back again sometime (shame!). .
"Phyllis" drove us to the cemetery where Philip was buried. Like many before us, we left mementos - our guitar picks, still warm from the previous night's gig. All the while Phyllis kept up a stream of humorous anecdotes about Philip and his antics, but despite the cheerfulness we still felt the underlying grief - and to think Phyllis does this many times for the constant stream of fans from all over the world. It was a privilege to meet such a warm and giving person. Anyway, Phyllis made sure we didn't get too morbid, took us to her home - another couple of fans were just leaving - and showed us the room she keeps full of Philip's memorabelia.
Phyllis also signed the copy of her book Stu brought along to re-read on the trip. If you haven't read it, do so, I dare you not to be moved by Phyllis' story.

Some pictures of the room Phyllis keeps filled with Philip's memorabilia. The picture of the family group is a painting by Jim Fitzpatrick.
The River Liffey, that runs through the heart of the city. Picture taken from the Ha'penny Bridge. (Is that the Guinness building I can see in the background?)
"Hi, babes...me? drinkin'?...nah...". Found this pub with a central courtyard, where we could listen to the traditional Irish music and watch the world go by.
"The Rock n Stroll Trail"... marking the spot near where a Thin Lizzy video was shot ("Old Town").

Found in the stairways of Slattery's club - guess what we did there? Well, we met Smiley Bolger who is arranging the next anniversary bash in Dublin, 4th Jan 98...yes, alright, then we had a few more Guinnessessesses..

Some more scenes from Slattery's stairway. There's always great live music going on. If you're in Dublin, drop in - it's in Capel Street.
Here we are after a hard two days drinking, surrounded by empties... OK, I admit it, I probably had one or two less than the others.
In Departures at Dublin Airport, Ray has just proposed to Paul and he accepted. I knew it was a mistake for those guys to share a room last night...
