SNACK FOODS EXAMPLES The exam paper may ask you to name popular snack and take away foods. You may find it easier for revision purposes, to list them separately. SNACK FOODS The confusing part is that snack foods can also be take away foods!! But this sheet tries to help you tell them apart
A SNACK FOOD A SNACK is an edible item which you can eat with your hands, usually one handed, which does not need cutlery although sometimes you do use a plastic spoon or fork to eat say chips from a bag or dish. BE CAREFUL! Chips can be a snack, but as they are NOT made as an edible casing with a filling, they do not feature in the examination question. AN EDIBLE CASING WITH FILLING SNACK EXAMPLES Sausage rolls spring rolls tacos Burger buns pork pies samosas Bhajis fish in batter jam turnovers Apple turnovers fruit pies pizzas Sandwiches pancakes jacket potatoes Cornish pasties scotch eggs quiches Filled pitta bread chocolate filled croissant game pies These items can be bought in a supermarket or other types of shop. They can also be provided by a single shop for example Pizza Hut or a burger stall. TAKE AWAY FOOD This can be a little more substantial for example a whole meal as sold by KFC their family bucket a food you queue up for and take away from the shop to eat. This also includes kebabs, pizzas, fish and chips and a Chinese or Indian Meal. A sandwich bar, a burger stall, spring rolls from the Chinese would be an edible casing with filling SO O.K. FOR THE EXAM!! SO BE VERY CAREFUL WE ARE ONLY INTERESTED IN FOOD THAT WE CAN EAT WITH AN EDIBLE CASING.
