Cumbria (North Lakes)

Setting off from Preston, take the M6 north to exit at Carnforth A6 north then T/R A6070 Burton in Kendal.  At A65, T/L A590 Windermere, T/L A590 Barrow. 

Have a brew at the Swan Hotel at Newby Bridge and continue on  A590 to Greenodd. T/R A5092 (dangerous junction, watch it!) and continue on to T/R onto A595.  At T junction at end, T/R still on A595 and follow the coast through to Ravenglass and lots of other places, perhaps having lunch at Sellafield visitor Centre. 

Continue to Egremont, at 3rd roundabout T/R A5086, Cleator Moor.  Follow through to A66 where T/R.

There are 3 alternatives now:-

1.  Follow A66 through to A6 at Penrith.

2. Just before A66, at bottom of dip with school on corner, T/R signed Lorton, where straight on to B5292 over Winlatter Pass to Keswick, where we rejoin the A66 to Penrith.

3. At Lorton, T/R following B5289 signed Buttermere, past Crummock Water, over Honnister Pass and by Derwent Water to Keswick where we again join the A66.

Petrol at the Red Rooster (T/L immediately over the M6)  then return to Lancashire via the A6 and Shap.
