Hi, I'm Terry Lee.
I was born in 1938 on the outskirts of Leeds (West Yorkshire). Now live in South Milford (N.Yorkshire)
Employed by the 'Royal Ordnance Factory'
- the tank factory - (recently bought out by 'Vickers')
for 42 years - now retired.
Started as an engineering apprentice - worked on most
type of engineering machinery - then a spell in the drawing
office. Progressed into 'Special Projects', designing, building
& testing of tank based vehicles & equipment.
I have been modelling since I was 10 yrs. old (not quite continuously)
Joy (right) - the lady in my life.
Other interests (besides family life) have included Group Scout Leader - picture shows us just after arriving at a campsite in the Lake District.

Another line was designing & building Specials
(home made cars).
The first was an 'all steel' buggy type (Mini Beaver) powered by a BMC Mini engine. The second was a glass fibre (home made) body on a tubular chassis, again powered by a Mini engine, but this time at the back. This was called the 'Mini Shark' (right) ![]() |

I also ventured into sailing, spending many happy weekends camping & sailing in the Lake District, although (above) this is me sailing a 'felucca' on the river Nile in Egypt.
Thats the history lesson over, now to the present:
I have been the chairman of 'PANDAS' (Pontefract and District Aeromodellers). We fly within Pontefract racecourse, which is situated just off junction 32 on the M62.
My early modelling years were spent flying free flight and control line, usually own design. When I started work I joined the 'Wharfedale' club where we had a few devoted control line combat flyers. We were rather successful at this and travelled the country entering competitions.
My current modelling activities are quite varied but
mainly concentrates on the novelty models - obviously.
I have built gliders, slope soarers, vintage,
electric (indoor & out), camera carrying planes &
many trainers for the youngsters in the club. Over
the last couple of years I have built a couple of gas
turbine engines and models to put them in.
The vintage model on the left is a 'Boomer Bus',
a 1941 design - re drawn by myself to accept radio control
The models on the right are trainers powered by anything
from .049 up to .25. Wings are polystyrene foam, covered in fancy
wrapping paper (saves having to decorate it).

Home made Gas Turbine
This is the second engine I have made, comprising
many of my own innovations + some tried & tested
components - but ALL home made. Total cost, only about £20!
The first engine was a 'Schreckling' built as the drawings in his book.
On the right is a close-up of the combustion chamber.

| This is my first gas turbine model, engine mounted under the wing. |
The second model was this canard |
This is the conversion from the canard to a more conventional model. |
