They were all powered by '40' size engines, and were small by current trends being only 4 foot span, but they looked impressive when all flying together. Controls were simply elevons and throttle.
The story goes: As we were flying something odd, can't
remember what it was, someone came up and asked, "Can
you make anything fly?". We replied, "Yes we can make a
brick fly - never mind a brick even a whole brick wall!"
"Go on then, he/she said ....." The challenge was laid,
the rest is history.
