WITCHES

sabrina start

I have built two witches, Hilda and Sabrina.

Top left is my latest - 'Sabrina', the teenage witch. She is slightly smaller than the original 'Hilda'. The cloakspan is 75". Powered by an OS 25 glow motor and controlled with Multiplex radio operating rudder, elevator & throttle.

As you can see she is looking forward, & only holding on with one hand, - smarty pants (actually she is not wearing any knickers). Hilda, on the other hand clings on for grim death & dare not look up! Hilda, at 8 foot cloakspan, has the same controls, but is powered by a Bluebird 51, and weighing in at about 7 pounds (Sabrina is only 4 pounds)

hilda walk It took me 3 years to get it to fly at all well, now it flies like magic -sic - It is still a handful, needing lots of 'down' as you open the throttle.

Construction: 1/16" ply 'broom handle' fuselage, balsa 'Brush' tail assembly, ripstop nylon 'cloak' (wing) supported on carbon 'kite sticks', body is obviously foam.

Trophies

Trophies (right) won by 'Hilda' at some of the shows we visited.

The centre one is the 'Howard Boys trophy for unorthodox models, won at a competition held at the Northampton's club site at Higham Ferrers in September 1999.

Electric At Windermere On floats Low pass

1) I have now converted 'Sabrina' to electric power (with help from BRC), far easier to control & ready in an instant to fly.
2) Shot over Lake Windermere at a fly-in around Halloween time.
3) At rest on 'her' pop bottle floats.
4) A low pass head on.

Glenda

Having seen Hilda flying, John Greenfield of 'The Ghost Squadron' decided to build his own version based on my design.

Here we see 'Glamorous Glenda'

Baby 1 Baby 2 Baby face

February 2009 - Now an indoor version, half the size of Sabrina at 3 foot cloakspan.
Powered by 'Tornado 2826' electric motor with a 2 cell 1000 MAh LiPo battery. This gives 15 mins duration.
It is also good for outdoor calm days - first flights were outdoors (in the snow!)
