THE PROPRIETORS: Lynn & Glyn
Booth moved down from Leeds in 1996 to take over The Swim School.
Lynn previously taught for Leeds
Leisure Services and had over fifteen years experience, qualified as an advanced
teacher she had taught all ages and abilities. She also ran the schools lesson
programme for the Castleford and Wakefield area and her own swimming school at
The Quakers Private School at Ackworth.
Glyn spent 10 years in the fire
service during which he qualified as a Swimming teacher and worked Part time in
the Leeds area. He also helped Lynn to set up and run the private Lessons at
Ackworth before taking the plunge, leaving The Fire Service to take over The
Swim School.
The Business
It was previously known as Langham's Swimming
School and has been running for more than 10 years.
Since taking over we have changed the lesson
content and structure, reducing class sizes and the duration of the courses
until achieving the system of tuition that we feel is most effective.
We have never had to advertise substantially as
we rely on word of mouth to promote our business. Satisfied customers have
helped spread the word and we have increased our lesson programme and customer
base significantly since taking over.
We feel this is the best indictor of the success
of our methods. it is testament to our system of teaching and to our excellent
staff that people are prepared to travel from Sheffield, Worksop, Nottingham and
Derby for lessons.
We are constantly looking to upgrade the
facilities, we replaced the pool with a new Deck Level Pool system. We
have created a new reception area, added a hairdressers; beauticians and
solarium.
Our commitment to quality has helped us to achieve external
recognition in 2003 we achieved "investors in people" status.
We have
also been designated a training centre for RLSS.
In June 2004 we became the FIRST swim school in the UK
to receive a STAmark. This award independantly verified by the Institute of
Leisure and Amenity management recognises high standards within the industry and
is a form of self regulation. The award is a pre requisite for full membership
of the recently formed Federation of Swim Schools which aims to inspire
customer confidence in the service we
provide.
