1. All libraries of the Army Library Service are open to all serving members of HM Forces and their dependants and to MOD civilians and MOD Agency employees. In Northern Ireland and overseas locations dependants of MOD civilians and of Agency employees are also eligible for membership.

Membership

2. An application form must be completed by either the serving member, or a dependant over the age of 18. This signifies assent to compliance with the rules of the library.

Loans

3. Members are allowed to borrow up to 6 items. Bona fide students are allowed extra loans.

4. Tickets are not transferable.

5. Items are loaned for the following periods:

a. Books, cassettes and music CDs: 3 weeks (bona fide students may have longer loans)
b. Language courses: 8 weeks
c. Videos: 1 week

6. Items may be renewed if not requested by another borrower.

Requests

7. Any item in stock may be reserved. Books and language courses not held locally may be requested and efforts will be made to locate a copy.

Damages and losses

8. Borrowers are responsible for the care and safe custody of all items on loan to them.

9. Charges for lost or damaged items will be made by raising a debit voucher against the defaulting member. The debit voucher charges will be set at the full cost plus 35 percent for administrative costs.

Cessation of membership

10. All items on loan must be returned to the library before posting or on termination of employment with the Ministry of Defence. Any items not returned will be considered lost and a debit voucher will be raised against the reader.
