Ericsson GA628 Mobile Phone
After the original battery packed up after a couple of years and I got a new phone, I decided
that I no longer had a use for this phone and decided to dismantle it!
Following the disassembled hard disk drives, I thought other people might want to see what was
inside. Ericsson no longer make this phone, and it is relatively old technology now.
In the end I actually found I could get an extended battery for the phone which was much cheaper
than the original battery. After a lot of shopping around I managed to find one for just £20 (DX Communications),
so the phone is now back in use (it still works)!
The Phone:
PCB Circuit Side:
The large white area is a label with barcode stuck over a couple of ICs. The gold coloured contact in the bottom
right corner is the aerial contact.
PCB Keypad Side:
The keypad has conductive rubber contacts which connect with the gold coloured pads on the PCB. The 6 white blocks on the left hand side
and the 4 larger white blocks on the right hand side are the illumination LEDs. The metal cover in the top right corner
shields the microwave electronics. The black plastic part in the bottom right hand corner is the ringer.
Inside Back of Case:
The inside of the case is metallised for shielding.
Inside Front of Case Including Keypad:
The back of the keypad is shown here. The large white area is the protective plastic behind the LCD
screen. The round part in the bottom left corner is the microphone. The large circular part on the
right hand side is the loudspeaker.
