Seagate ST157A 40Mb HDD

I found this hard disk in a 286 computer in a skip. It had been there for a couple of days in the rain. After drying it out, it turned out to not work too well (the computer that is). The hard disk was ok though.

It worked well for sometime, I even managed to install Windows 95 on it (running on a 386SX-16 with 4Mb RAM)! One day I heard a bang followed by a scraping sound and it failed. I opened it up (much easier than the Seagate ST3290A), and found that one of the heads had broken off! After removing the loose part, I reassembled it and found it worked reasonably well (with reduced capacity)! The top cover, label and screw positions are shown in the photo below:

The head assembly is moved by a stepper motor, hence the slow access time experienced with old hard disk drives.
