Comments: Cambria was a fast, elegant steamer, capable of 20 knots and came into service as one of a trio of steamers introduced in successive years, the others being Westward Ho (1894) and Britannia (1896). Her maiden trip was from Bristol to Ilfracombe and was undertaken on 1 June 1895. She became Cambell's main steamer on the South Coast in 1898. This picture shows her at Chepstow in the early 1900's. The landing stage here was replaced by a new pier in 1907. After war service, she returned to operational use again in August 1919, repeating her maiden voyage from Bristol to Ilfracombe. She had a distinctive siren, rather than a ship's whistle, which was said to echo around the Avon Gorge for a long time when it was sounded when approaching Hotwells in Bristol. She continued service in the Bristol Channel until requisitioned for naval work in the Second World War, which she survived only to be broken up after the war as she was, like her sister Westward Ho in too poor condition for reconditioning.
