Comments:

Built to compete with the Caledonian Steam Packet Co's Duchess of Hamilton, the Glen Sannox was not only one of the fastest paddle steamers ever to be built for the Clyde, but she was one of the most elegant as well. Averaging 19.23 knots on her trials, she touched 20.25 knots on one run. She was notable as the largest railway owned pleasure steamer in the British Isles. Her size and power meant that she was heavy on coal, something which, despite her popularity, meant that her service career was not as long as it should have been, although when she was built, a cheap and plentiful supply of coal made her fuel consumption of small importance. Mainly employed on the run to Arran she was requisitoned in 1915 for troop transportation in the English Channel, although was found to be unsuitable and was returned to her owners, where she became the only Sou'Wester left in service, due to war requisitions. She was withdrawn from service in September 1924 and whilst it was reported in 1925 that she was to be extensively overhauled for service on excursion work from Gourock she was sold for scrapping to Messrs Smith & Co of Port Glasgow and was broken up in 1925.
