This card was posted on 30 August 1907 and was obviously sent to a collector, as the narrative reads simply "Another one eyed steamer for you, Willie". It was sent from Glasgow to a Fred Kinnaird, who resided at 1 Belman Terrace, Pollokshield, also in Glasgow.
Mars was launched on 14 March 1902 and had achieved a creditable 16 knots on her trials. She was employed on the run from Princes Pier to Rothesay, the Kyles of Bute and Ormidale. She was requisitioned for minesweeping use in the First World War, off Harwich and whilst she survived the hostilities she was unfortunately run down by a British destroyer during night time on 18 November 1918. Her back was broken and she was lost.
