Prince Edward

Builders: A & J Inglis 1912

Propulsion type: Paddle, compound diagonal

Owners: Dumbarton & Balloch Joint Line Committee, London Midland & Scottish and London & North Eastern Railway Companies

Service dates: 1912 - 1955

Tonnage: Gross 304

Comments:

Originally intended for introduction to service in 1911, Prince Edward was too late for the spring tides which would enable her to negotiate the River Leven. She was introduced into service the following summer. She was similar in appearance to Prince George and Princess May, although she was larger and benefitted from compound diagonal machinery. She plied her trade on Loch Lomond and maintained the Balloch to Ardlui service during her commission. Following the introduction of Maid of the Loch in March 1953, Prince Edward was scheduled for modernisation and despite some cosmetic painting work she did not survive and was withdrawn and broken up at Balloch in spring 1955.
