Comments:

Snaefell was the fourth of the company's "Quins" and was launched on 11 March 1948. Similar to her sisters and vitually the same as King Orry and Mona's Queen, she had the windows of her deck shelter carried right aft. She also had the Manx coat of arms on her bow. She and Mona's Isle were the last of the company's ships to operate the Douglas to Heysham service until it had to close in August 1974. It has been reported that the wooden jetty at Heysham was becoming unsafe and could not withstand a two and a half thousand ton steamer nudging up against it. She was sold for scrap to the Rochdale Metal Recovery Co. in 1978 and was towed to Blyth in November 1978 for breaking up.

With thanks to Keith Sutton for providing me with the above photograph and for additional information on this ship.
