This picture comes from a card purchased on a school trip in 1949 to Spurnhead from Grimsby Docks.
Tattershall Castle was built and launched at the same time as Wingfield Castle for the Humber ferry between Hull and New Holland. These ships were a departure from previous Humber ferries and their funnels were placed abaft or behind the paddle-boxes, giving a rather unbalanced view. This was corrected in the later Lincoln Castle and there was some similarity to her and to the Clyde steamer Talisman in appearance. Before the Second World War the sister ships operated Sunday excursions from Hull to Grimsby, Reads Island or Immingham. Withdrawn in 1969, Tattershall Castle was sold for static use and is now a floating pub moored on the River Thames Embankment near to Charing Cross station.
