Comments:
This ship had a variety of names and an even more varied line of ownership. In addition to the names shown above she was also called Tintern and finally Alentejo (when sold to the Portuguese). Originally sporting two funnels, as shown here, she was given only one funnel when reboliered by Campbells in 1912. At that time she was also given round portholes in her saloon and had her bridge repositioned forward of her paddle boxes. Shown here at Cardiff docks with the after deck of PS Gwalia in the foreground, she was a good looking steamer. Sailing here on the Cardiff to Weston service she was a popular ship, although did not stay long with any one owner, indicating the intense competition that was in place amongst the steamer companies of the time. During her service years she sailed on the Firth of Forth as Tantallon Castle, the South Coast as Sussex Queen, North Wales as Rhos Colwyn, the Bristol Channel as Westonia and Tintern and finally as a ferry across the River Tagus in Portugal as Alentejo.
