There are several different clutch cover plates around, so it might be worth a moment or two trying to identify them.
"In the beginning" Borg and Beck produced three different clutch cover plates for the Ford range. These are tabled below:-
| Model | Clutch Spring Colour | Borg & Beck Part Number | Comments |
| 1500cc G.T. | BLACK | Q 30019 | |
| 1500cc | RED or BROWN | Q 30016 | |
| 997cc / 1200cc | GREEN or WHITE | Q 30001 | |
| ALL MODELS | BLUE | ??????? | Part Number 50803 -- very common now |
You might only find these colours if you remove an old clutch from a car.
They then produced one single clutch cover plate to fit all models. This was noticeably "softer" in use. I have no information on dates when these clutches changed. It had light blue springs and is photographed below:-

So, when you order a "GT" clutch from your motor factors you will probably get a blue-spring variant, so don't pay over the odds for it, as I suspect I have done...
Thanks to Chris Seymour for starting this question, and to Roger Raisey for providing the answers.
I tried to contact Quinton Hazell and Borg and Beck via their email support service, but neither of them replied to me.
