This striking painting was auctioned on Ebay recently. It sold for around £49. The artist is one James Downie who is busy and can't accept commissions at the moment. I have his email address if you feel a need to contact him and pursued him to put brush to canvas for you. (For those who don't know, Ebay is an on-line (internet) auction, and if you go to their site here:- www.ebay.co.uk and type in the magic word Cortina you should find around 200 items at any given time.)
I have the above print hanging on my wall at home. It was originally painted by Michael Turner and copies are available from Studio 88 Limited, www.studio88.co.uk or phone & fax at 01494 785193. Tell them you saw the print on my web-site ! - Tommy.

The print shows the great Jim Clark in his one and only outing in a works-Lotus-Cortina in the 1966 RAC Rally. Clark drove number 8 with co-driver Brian Melia and the damage inflicted on the car, seen here at the Aberfeldy service point, would ultimately put the crew out of the rally.
I quote from Eric Dymock's superb book entitled "Jim Clark",
"" Yet Clark was more competitive than anybody had thought possible. He was seldom out of the top ten, he was fastest on three stages, second fastest on seven, third on four and fourth on five. On the 40th, in Loch Achray, he crashed inflicting severe damage on the Lotus Cortina. He then rolled into a ditch on the 45th, Glengap...""
""The hitherto almost invincible Swedish drivers were generous in their praise. In the course of the one event Clark had progressed from being unexpectedly quick to being a potential winner...""
""...when his car was declared unfit for further combat. He joined the service crew in another Lotus Cortina and carried on round the route. They had never known such enthusiasm from any driver, far less a double World Champion and Indianapolis winner.""
I received the above print from a fellow club-member. I do not know the artist or the source of the print, so it appears here without permission, -- I have added "DO NOT COPY" to the scan. Please contact me if you know the artist or the source of this illustration. Any more like this??.
It appears to be an early Cortina in the 1965 (?) East African Safari Rally. Any information gratefully received.
UPDATE: It is a watercolour by James Dugdale (unsigned) of the East African Safari Rally.
UPDATE2: It is NOT by James Dugdale. Thanks to those who contacted me. I now have James Dugdale's phone number and will pass it on to anyone with a serious enquiry.
At this years National, Richard Jones from Morecambe had a very striking print/photo of another car in the East African Safari Rally. If anyone can supply information about the artist/photographer/source of this picture, please contact me- Tommy.
This picture appears on the inside front cover of the "Castrol book of Achievements 1964". I believe it is a Ford Motor Company picture.

(I know this picture well! I put a wing-mounted spot-lamp on my first MK1 Cortina around 1966. The local Police hated it, until I pointed out it was within regulation height and was controlled by a separate on/off switch. They still weren't happy and caused me some grief until I removed it...Tommy).
