A Genuine 1960s Circuit Racer cum Rally Car

This is Tony Johnson's 1966 (registered 1967) MK1 G.T. It was bought by Priestly Engineering in Aycliffe, Co. Durham in 1968 and prepared as a competition car. For some time it was used as a circuit car and then turned into a rally car. The above photo shows Tony have a real go on the Snetterton circuit in 1991. Tony has owned the car for over 26 years and competed in it regularly.

The car is "as was" without any alterations and is probably one of the very few original MK1 1960s competition cars in existence.

Engine Specification:-

Head skimmed by 10thou,

Powermax pistons 90 thou oversize,

Piper Yellow cam,

Steel balanced rods,

Oversize valves, double valve springs,

Oversized polished ports,  

Two twin- 40 Webers with ram pipes,

Multi-blade fan,

Duplex timing chain,

alloy rocker cover,

Double accelerator return springs are fitted, plus a catchment bottle for the crank breather.

 

"The rest":-

Borg and Beck competition clutch,

Standard G.T. box with Wooler quick-shift remote,

Rear axle is 3.7 from an Escort RS (three other ratios available depending on what sort of use (abuse?) the car is getting!

Wheels, genuine Minilite Magnesium 5-1/2J (or full set of 5-1/2Js steels with forest tyres),

Corsair 2000E brake servo,

Air horns,

Original strut brace from the 1960s,

Double anti-roll bar,

High ratio steering box,

Two up, two down lamp brackets (changed from original 1960s set-up for legal reasons),

Flame-proof boot,

Morris Oxford tank mounted behind the rear seat in boot,

Twin Jaguar fuel pumps,

Twin, centre mounted spare wheel holder,

Two spare wheels,

Battery mounted in the boot,

Overflow drip tray on the fuel filler,

Rubber bonnet straps,

Uprated shock absorbers,

Fibreglass 1960s bucket seats,

Grey Britax three point harnesses,

Navigator's foot rest,

Speedwell accelerator extension,

Inboard dash-mounted fuse-box,

Astrali leather-rimmed steering wheel,

1960s original sump guard with oil drain hole near plug,
