Fitting engine bay wiring clips

I know this may seem trivial, but if I couldn't think how to do it, then chances are someone else has had a problem too! ***

This clip is made of quite hard plastic. I tried pushing one into the mounting holes but without success. Having thought about it for an hour or two, I figured the hole in the legs of the clip must be there for a reason. So I decided to make a fitting tool.

Get hold of a nail (I found a masonry nail kicking about the garage floor) which fits into the holes in the legs, and cut off the pointed end of the nail. Flatten with a file if necessary.

Dip the legs of the clip in Swarfega (which acts as a lubricant) and bash each leg into the hole using a small hammer and with the nail down each leg of the clip. If you bash too hard you may puncture the end of the leg, but even so, it will not be seen.

Works for me!

Of course, if you know a better or different way...???

*** From Bob Weatherston:-- with reference to your problem fitting wiring clips, I used hot water with fairy liquid this softens them and they can be pushed in easily with the soap. -- Thanks Bob!!
