RAF TEAM AT INTERSHOOT
In early February 2005, the RAF pistol team comprising Wg Cdr Peter Flippant, FS Ian Nicholas and Sgt Tony Crowe took part in Intershoot, a prestigious international airgun competition held in the Hague, Holland, competing against a strong field of Olympic and World Championship medallists.
The Intershoot event comprises competitions for air rifle and pistol, men and women, and seniors (over 21) and juniors. There are 3 separate competitions in each category on each of the 3 match days, which for this year were from Thursday 3rd to Saturday 5th February. The RAF team took part in the senior air pistol, a 60-shot precision match shot at 10 metres.
The RAF team were always going to struggle against an opposition comprising national and regional teams from across the globe; however, there were some promising individual performances. FS Nicholas achieved a personal best of 537 on the second day and Wg Cdr Flippant put in a series of results that compared very favourably with those from the England team, just missing out on the Olympic final.
