ClubTurf Cricket Pitches

CLUB SURFACES “NATURALLY THE BEST”.

Since 1978 Club Surfaces have set the lead and the standard in non-turf cricket pitches, and in that time have installed about 5,500 ClubTurf pitches in the UK and worldwide.

Why have an Artificial Match Pitch?

Another name for an artificial match pitch is ‘all weather’. As cricketers we all know how frustrating a wet summer can be. The object of every cricket club is to play cricket and your chances of playing more games will be enhanced with an artificial match pitch.

Due to lack of facilities for cricket there is excess demand for those that are available. This results in over use of squares and poor quality (stale) grass pitches. If you were to purchase an artificial match pitch every match that was played on it would increase participation and take pressure off your natural square.

A high quality artificial match pitch will produce a consistent bounce without the inconsistencies of grass, however well maintained, thus providing a good learning pitch for JUNIOR cricketers. This will again take pressure off your clubs’ square.

We believe that the most important section in cricket clubs’ of all standards is the junior section. Without the juniors the long term survival and improvement of the club is unlikely and unproductive.

A match pitch will open up new avenues for your club. I.e. Midweek cricket, pub knockouts, primary school competitions, local business sides. All which will boost the clubs revenue.

If your club doesn’t have practice facilities you can use your match pitch. Either through purchasing a mobile cage or temporary nets you will have either one or if used back to back, two good quality practice facilities.

Why have an Artificial Practice Area?

In an ideal world all cricket would be played on grass and we wouldn’t have to do any preparation. However we don’t live in an ideal world. Few clubs have the time to properly maintain a grass practice area as well as their square. Therefore more clubs if not all are turning towards the low maintenance artificial pitches. They provide consistent bounce and can be played upon in all weather conditions, unlike grass.

An Artificial Practice Area is an ideal location to coach young cricketers as well as develop your seniors.Coaching demands consistent bounce and a controlled environment making artificial pitches possibly even better than grass.

The majority of cricketers only play once a week. It goes without saying that practice will improve their performance. The installation of an artificial practice pitch will provide them with a consistent wicket upon which they can play their shots and get their eye in.

In prolonged wet periods it is difficult for players to maintain their form if only playing once a week. The ability to use a practice facility in any weather will give the players a chance to practice even when they can’t play.

Why Club Surfaces?

Our Concept

1. To provide an artificial surface that is as natural and realistic as possible so that it matches the playing conditions of the square you will play on.

2. With ClubTurf ‘Natural’ pitches wet base conditions will provide assistance for spinners while dry and firm conditions will produce a pitch giving higher bounce and greater pace. Thus the user can determine the playing characteristics of the Pitches by the judicious use of water and roller.

3. The BUCK stops with us. Club Surfaces is totally vertically integrated so if anything goes wrong there is only one party to blame.

4. Club Surfaces has been installing pitches for over 25 years, which makes us the oldest in the industry. The secret of our success is CUSTOMER SERVICE. We don’t spend thousands advertising because we know that the best form of advertising is a happy customer.

5. Good After Sales Service. We provide our customers with 1 year free insurance and longitudinal support in the form of periodic restoration of the surface (at a small cost). We also provide a maintenance schedule to increase the life span of your pitch.

The Grass

1. ClubTurf is a 100% British Product

2. The raw material is the highest grade ICI polypropylene stabilised against U/V and atmospheric degradation

3. Our artificial grass was shown in Sports Council tests to be superior to every other artificial grass in the critical aspects of overall durability, tuft anchorage, porosity and natural characteristics.

4. Club Turf is the only double wilton woven grass all our competitors use single wilton woven.

5. Club Surfaces’ own specially built looms in Durham in comparison to our competitors who buy their grass from third parties.

The Installation

We can install all year round even in mid winter.

1. Even the best materials and design concept have to be correctly installed and your ClubTurf installation team is the best in the industry having already installed over five thousand pitches. Your installation will not be subcontracted to an organisation with little or no experience of the unique requirements of cricket pitches.

2.The best artificial grass deserves the best base and installation. Therefore we don’t just excavate to 2 inches like other suppliers we excavate to 6 inches. Full depth excavation filled with a compacted stone base and hard porous surface provides a ‘natural’ pitch whose playing characteristics will vary with the firmness and moisture content of the base. We believe that shallow excavation and/or layers of synthetic materials only act to kill bounce and lessen the usefulness of practice. However if the facility is to be used by the very young Club Surfaces also market “The DS Surface”.

3. We do not use edging boards on any installation and strongly recommend against them. Our longitudinal studies have shown that edging boards rise to produce a protruding edge, which is completely unsatisfactory. We provide a natural surface to fit in with the natural surrounds and believe that edging boards and envelope systems, supplied by some of our competitors, are by definition un-natural and artificial.
