"The situation is grave, Captain." Spock handed the tricorder to Kirk.
"How could this happen? We're only three years into a five year mission." Kirk frowned at the readings.
"It is a mystery, Captain."
"You know what this means?"
"It will be difficult to continue the mission with stocks so low."
"Difficult?" McCoy interrupted. "It's damn well impossible, and you know it, Jim."
"The nearest Starfleet supply vessel is nine hundred light years away from our present position," Spock said.
"It's the end of our mission," Kirk replied sadly. "We can't continue with only one red shirt left in store."
