Dimsie, Head Girl
   by Dorita F. Bruce

"I'm so utterly unsuited to the job," groans Jean Gordon on learning that she is to become the new Head Girl at Jane's.

And so it turns out. Despite Miss Yorke's confidence in her, despite the support of her friend Dimsie, poor Jean proves incapable of shouldering the responsibilities of her position. Quick to take advantage of Jean's weakness, the Juniors become ever more unruly, while Dimsie and the other prefects struggle to maintain order.

Finally, Miss Yorke has to take action. Jean is deposed - and in her place, Dimsie is appointed Head Girl.

This unlooked-for-honour causes a particular problem for Dimsie, who is sensitive of her friend's shame and resentment. But, in characteristic fashion, Dimsie meets the challenge head on, and finally manages to earn not only the respect of wrongdoers and the admiration of the whole school, but also the renewed friendship of the unfortunate Jean.

This is the fifth in the series of Dimsie Books by Dorita Fairlie Bruce.
