COMMODORES WELCOME

First of all I would like to thank all those who helped with the maintenance work at the club during the workdays. The new decking in front of the clubhouse looks great complete with balustrade. Racing is taking place whenever conditions allow and the rescue boat has always been in attendance. Please make an effort to get down to the club whenever you can and use the extensive facilities.

New Members are required and are very welcome whether it is just as a Social Member or to use the Clubs Pico's. So if you know of anyone who may be interested get them to come along.

Best Regards,

Stuart

Help Required

Sailing Members

More sailing members are needed. We now have a regular helm on the rescue boat, please make it worth while and get down to race. Starts are 2:00. The club is looking to increase its membership, with most of the boat owners struggling to get a crew each week if you know of anybody thinking of learning to sail am sure that most will gladly introduce them to sailing. With racing planned every weekend this should give the opportunity to practice with a novice. Chris Smith or Mike Shingler are willing to give anyone a ride on a Cat or the club Pico's are ready to go.

As in previous years help is required for Commodores day. If you could do a Salad or Sweet to help Lindsay please contact her with your suggestions. Any costs will be reimbursed.

Vandalism

Some of you may know but the club has suffered earlier this year, one of the club tractors was started and driven through the fence. Only minor damage was caused and petrol robbed from the fuel store. We hope that this will be the end for this year.

Hurricane 5.9 Nationals - Highcliffe

Some of you may have known that Tim Roberts and myself competed in this year's Hurricane 5.9 Nationals at Highcliffe. I thought that I would give a brief account of the event, a full write up will no doubt appear in yachts and yachting and on the Hurricane website. 37 boats entered the event, The event was held over an extended Spring Bank Holiday weekend with 10 races planned over the 4 days. The weekend started with sunny conditions and a force 4-5 this continued though out the weekend giving ideal sailing conditions. This was the first event for Tim and myself this year and it took the Saturday before we got back into it. It was not until Monday and the wind had increase to a good force 5 that we had our best result of the weekend. Unfortunately due to work commitments we where unable to sail on the final Tuesday but finished 22 overall.

Duty Days

A small plea - can you please check your sailing programme and if down to be Duty Officer make every effort to come down to the club, or find a person to swap with. Often it is assumed that our steward will be down and can manage. Roger, like the rest of us does have other commitments which may prevent him from getting down early or staying late.
