Nets at Lindisfarne - Summer 2007
‘Nets’ is a large scale installation by Wendy Rudd made up of a number of large nets ranging in length from six to twenty feet. It was inspired by finding a washed up and damaged fishing net on the island of Lindisfarne.

All the nets have  been knitted on very large knitting needles in a variety of natural fibres including jute, hemp, linen, cotton and paper.

Each net is hung from fishing line suspended from cords creating layers and curves of texture. Viewers are invited to move among the nets  enabling  unexpected glimpses through one net to another.

The close proximity and huge size of these nets combined with their open texture provide interesting and engaging experiences. The nets are intended to create a meditative atmosphere where visitors find themselves slowing down and making a personal journey through the nets.

At the St Cuthbert's Centre on Lindisfarne, the exhibition was visited by 1000 people over two weeks. Some comments:

'A magic experience and inspirational'

'I never knew knitting would be so interesting'

'A lovely artistic, tranquil surprise'
