STORY

One day when Pirate Captain Jacob-Shout-A-Lot was only seven years old, the whole Pirate crew vanished one night after seeing a vision of the dreaded "CHOCOLATE DRAGON" and only he and the other pirates children were left to run the ship.

After the tears that morning, Jacob knew there was only one thing to do, they had to run the ship by themselves , so he started shouting orders to his new crew. "Come on pull yourself together! We have a ship to run. Hoist the sails, Splice the main brace, Scrub the decks." He just kept shouting orders so his crew did not know just how frightened he was, and they didn't.

ADVENTURE ONE

Some years later and after many untold adventures with his crew, Jacob was now a boy of 14 years, he was still captain. Jacob was sitting on the bridge of the Daisy Rose with his feet up on the rail just gazing through the old brass telescope.

In the distance he could see a shape rising and falling beneath the waves. He knew the shape he could see, but just could not recall it from memory, it seemed from long ago. He thought and thought then a slow deep cold chill ran up and down his back bone. It was, No it couldn't be, but it was "THE CHOCOLATE DRAGON!". A quiet but uneasy calm calm over the crew as they saw and realised what the shape was. They looked at each other, Jacob shouted" Steer South, we attack the the Chocolate Dragon!!" nothing happened, no one moved, they all stood as made from stone. Jacob commanded "Steer South death to the chocolate dragon !". This time his orders were carried out.

The ship turned slowly south and was making good speed. Tom walked up to Jacob and said " What’s the plan captain ? ". Jacob looked long and hard at Tom, and then said"This monster took our families and left us for dead, we owe our Fathers the courtesy of making the seas safe from this chocolate demon" . Tom nodded, "Come closer Tom" said Jacob as he whispered something into his ear. Tom nodded again then smiled. "How long before we reach the dragon Tom ?" said Jacob. Tom looked up at the sky, then he licked his finger and held it up to the wind, "I would say about two hours Captain," Jacob smiled "Just enough time I think" he said. Jacob and Tom then raced below to the ships store room. After about half an hour they reappeared carrying a large box of bits and pieces. They put the box on the deck and the crew gathered round, Jacob handed two large mirrors to pirate Scullit and said "Fix these to each end of the ship, so you can see the main mast in each." He then turned to Tom and said "Look here is a glass lens from a divers helmet, fix it with some kind of a mount to the top of the main mast, then cover it up with some black cloth."

They carried out their orders without delay, BANG, BANG, BANG, went Toms hammer, as he fixed the lens inside it’s frame, it was now fixed to the mast, and he covered it with black cloth. Jacob reached into the box and took out one more item from it, a large brass megaphone (used for shouting from ship to ship). And almost too soon they could see the chocolate dragon, and worst it could see them. It headed towards them at a terrible rate and the ship started to sway, the sea started to splash in.

Jacob lifted the megaphone and shouted "Dragon,Dragon" well the dragon was so surprised that someone was calling him by name, that he slowed down and came along side the ship. "You called me!, you called me!," he said with a sigh, "No one has ever called me before, everyone runs away from me, no one stops and talks."

He started to sob, and a great big chocolate tear hit Jacob on the head. "Please don’t hurt us" said Jacob, "If you try to we will be forced to defend ourselves." " I don’t want to hurt anyone" came the reply,"But you do" said Jacob. "The whole crew of this ship disappeared after seeing you." "I know" said the dragon, "But I didn't do it, I just said hello and everyone jumped overboard, it always happens, and I just want someone to talk to I'm so lonely. "

Jacob stopped for a moment and thought "Would you like to talk to someone?." "Yes" said the dragon, "All the time" said Jacob, "Oh yes" said the dragon "It would be a dream come true." " Well" said Jacob "I was going to use those mirrors, and that lens and melt you with the suns rays." " DON’T TO THAT" screamed the dragon, "I promise not to frighten you" he pleaded. "Well all right" said Jacob, if you promise .

The dragon let out a huge sigh, and covered Jacob and most of his crew in chocolate sauce. "I’m sorry" said the dragon quickly, as he saw Jacob wiping the sauce from his face and licking his fingers. "HUM NOT BAD" said Jacob. Well at that moment the whole crew were in danger of being drowned in a sea of chocolate, "Don't melt me" said the dragon. "I won’t" said Jacob.

Then Jacob remembered the magic ring, that his father had given him as a boy, and how he used to make himself smaller when hiding from his friends. Jacob went below, and returned moments later with the ring between his fingers. Jacob reached out and slid the ring on the tip of one of the dragons horns. The dragon started to shrink, smaller, and smaller, and still smaller, he went until he was only about five feet in length. "Come on" said Jacob, "Hop aboard you need never be lonely again."

And that's how the CHOCOLATE DRAGON joined the crew of the Daisy Rose.
