S.H.V.P.S VINTAGE CAR SHOW

SUNDAY 1st JUNE 2008

Queen Elizabeth Country Park near Petersfield Hants

Due to a smell of petrol when filling up the tank it was decided to check over the flying 8 the week before the show and do more urgent maintenance held over by rain

Once the floor boards in the area behind the back seat had been lifted rust was clearly visible around the sender unit. This sits in a dip in the tank and fills with road water.

Also as could be seen the tank had been bodged around the joints. A quick call to Brian Parkes and a new joint tube was sent.

Following Brian Parkes advice the tank joints were sealed with Petro Patch, and the tank was fully painted to protect it in future.

At the same time the hood frame was refitted after being repaired by the local blacksmith.

It had taken him over 3 hours to mend

Finally the hood covering was refitted with much cursing, the car repacked and thoroughly cleaned and polished

The day of the show our flying eight motored 34 miles in a storm. On arrival we were invited to join the Triumph Sport six Club on their stand.

Despite the threat from dark clouds it was a very pleasant day with the hood down. On the way home it did try to rain but we soldiered on---hood down!
