WALLOP’ 08!

Music in the Air Saturday 26th July 2008

On a beautiful and yes! dry sunny day Darrell set off from his home in Stan the 1939 Standard Flying 8 tourer for the former World War Airfield at Middle Wallop, to celebrate the early years of British Aviation.

On arrival the 8 was parked next to The “Real” Dad’s Army display

A full very hot day followed with music by the Army Air Corps Band with aircraft from the WW1 up to modern helicopters, singers including girl group ALL ANGELS & WILL MARTIN.

Hundreds of people came to see Stan as he is known and told of the Standards that either they or their fathers’ had owned.

A 1937 Standard Flying 10 saloon dressed up as a support vehicle for the Dads’ Army display owned by John Butcher who played Corporal Jones.

The car had only two owners, ex Jersey where it was sitting in a Museum. The car RAS 865 was seized by the German invaders and pressed into service after the owner had been arrested.

Seen here posing for a set piece with the Flying 8 owned by Darrell Cunningham the Press Officer for the Standard Motor Club, are all the members of the REAL Dads’ Army
