Technical Visit There
will be a technical visit to Balfour Beatty Rail Track Systems on
Tuesday evening 17 November.
Formerly based
at the North British plant in Bathgate, the new Balfour Beatty
plant at South Queensferry is one of the most modern and
state of the art cast manganese rail crossing manufacturing
facilities in the world.
The programme
is as follows: 18.30
Meet with coffee/ tea light Buffet. 19.00
Lecture theatre – welcome/ introduction/ what we do (including
video clips of operations that will not be seen on the tour i.e.
casting and solution treatment, etc) /Safety instructions. 19.30
Commence tour 20.30/45
return office block 20.45
Any Questions? 21.00 Depart site.
We
would appreciate as many people as possible bring their own PPE –
compulsory helmets, safety glasses, High Visibility Vests,
“sensible footwear” (ideally toetectors – certainly no
trainers or high heels) and ear protection.
The
plant is located in Headrig
Road, South Queensferry EH30 9SH
Numbers are limited. If

stating if you are able to provide your own PPE.
New President John
Darling (Plansee Metals) was elected as President of the Scottish
Association for Metals at the Annual General Meeting on 20
October 2009. John has been a strong supporter of SAM for
many years. His term of office runs until October 2011.
