Bill’s Motorcycle News

15th May 2004 The first day!

Today I did my CBT, not even sat on a proper motorbike till today.

Spent the morning on theory and riding round cones. Difficult, lots going on, changing gear with my foot is difficult! Good job the instructor spotted when I was loosing it, and got me doing something else!

Got to lunch time. Decided motorbikes were not for me! But I don’t like giving up so I did the road ride, after a couple of hours things were a lot better, I was enjoying it!

Got home with my CBT certificate. Long hard day, knackered!

21st June Direct Access Training

Began three day intensive DAS today, started off on CG 125 again, but by lunchtime I was on a Kawasaki ER5 (500 cc!) DAS was tough but good, a bit of a roller coaster for me, on day two I wanted to give up, I had lost my bottle. Fell off twice, both times on that U turn thing! Had two more lessons and eventually got the U turn right!

6th July Test day….

Off to Bishop Auckland for a 10.30 test. Not too bad, and at 11.15 I had a pass certificate with three minor faults, that’s quite good methinks! Thanks Jim’s Motor Cycle Training!

17th July – Collected bike from Newcastle!

Off to the North side of the Tyne (Kawasaki Newcastle) on a rainy day, long nervous ride home.

16th October – Thoughts after three months and 4000 miles in the saddle

Still very good! Getting quite confident now.

Bikers are a really friendly lot! Most speak, 99% nod or wave at other bikes. Seen one or two nut cases, vast majority are just normal people!

28th December – Thoughts after six months and 6000 miles in the saddle

Still on the bike, not many brave the winter months do they! - Pah! Wimps!

Been out today, cool, but a lovely day for a ride.
