MISSION STATEMENT
Our overall aim is to promote the empowerment and enablement of women by providing the resources whereby women can meet, learn and support each other to devise common strategies for the advancement of women.
Since the 1960's, women have developed groups and organisations throughout the world, to challenge the oppression and discrimination of women, as it exists, in all it's forms. The Women's Centre is part of that movement, and is committed to joining with other women. and women's groups, around positive initiatives for change.
Through the activity of the Centre, we want to provide spaces where women have the opportunity to explore their lives, make choices and gain support to act on these choices.
We recognise, celebrate and value the talents, skills and potential of women, and will actively pursue opportunities which will empower women to live their lives as richly as possible, in groups, at work and the world generally.
We have a commitment to address differences, prejudice and oppression on an individual basis, including sexism, lesbian, bi-sexual and gay oppression; class oppression;religious differences, disability, racism and ageism, and other discriminatory practices as they arise.
We are non-party political, and committed to an active anti-sectarian approach to our work.
Important gains have been made by women, for women, over the last 20 years, but there remain many challenges. We will continue to be part of that movement, demanding complete respect, equality and freedom for all women, and organising to make changes to the basic conditions in society that perpetuates discrimination against women.
