Gentle
Therapy is a weekly class held at the Yoga Therapy Centre for people who
need a gentler class than our normal open classes.
It is aimed specifically at people suffering from conditions such
as ME, MS and Rheumatic ailments, where mobility is restricted.
Yoga
therapy can give MS sufferers the courage and power needed to utilise
their residual muscular capacity. Attention
is given to improving control of muscles which have been affected – or
of other muscles which can take over from them.
In this way mobility and range of activities can often be improved
and maintained.
Yoga
also reduces stress, thus further improving quality of life and helping to
slow down the disease process (which is known to be exacerbated by
stress). Yoga helps people
accept life as it is through quietening the mind and meditation, and
maintain positive states of mind through emotion culturing.
Yoga
for MS at the Yoga Therapy Centre
Yoga
involves very practical techniques which help you feel better about
yourself, both physically and emotionally.
We hold a weekly yoga class for MS sufferers.
Alternatively one-to-one consultations can be arranged with
specialist yoga therapists, these are especially useful in developing a
yoga plan for home practice.
The
Yoga for MS classes consists of gentle stretch and posture work,
breathing, relaxation and meditation techniques, designed to help:
-
Maintain
strength, muscle tone and general fitness
-
Improve
balance, co-ordination and mobility
-
Strengthen
the body’s own healing powers
-
Increase
concentration
-
Reduce
stress, anxiety and depression
