I have practised yoga since
1970 and have taught since 1987. My teacher is Swami Dharmanancda Saraswati, founder and
spiritual head of the Dharma Yoga Centre, whose teaching and teacher training diplomas I
hold; I also hold the British Wheel of Yoga's teaching diploma. My teaching includes
experience with older people and people with mental health problems. For the past seven
years I have trained yoga teachers. My book, A Visible Wound: A Healing Journey through
Breast Cancer was published in 1996 by Element. The tape that goes with it, Breathe
and Relax: A Way to Healing, gives instructions for the practices which are described
in the book and which will be the main focus of the class. My cancer experience has left me with a deeper trust in the power of yoga to
help us through life and a stronger commitment to passing on what I know of yoga through
teaching and training - and , now, to those who are meeting the challenge of cancer. |

I started practising yoga
in 1985 as an aid to stress relief and was invited to take up training as
a yoga teacher in 1990. I qualified with distinction as a FRYOG teacher in
1992. Due to a full time job that involved a lot of commuting I only
taught intermittently until 1999, taking a range of classes from beginner
to advanced. Then in 1999, I took the YBT course in Yoga Therapy to widen
and deepen my knowledge and qualified in 2001. Since then I have been
taking therapy classes at the YTC in asthma, low back pain, digestive
problems, circulation problems and AIDS. In addition, I now teach yoga
classes regularly in Addlestone and Iver.
Over the years my
attitude to yoga and yoga therapy has changed. Initially, I believed that
yoga mainly focused on ways
of working with the body and the breath to control the mind. However, as
my knowledge was widened and deepened, I now include the use of mantras,
sounds and mudras as well. I addition, I have come to recognise that many
of the yoga practices can, and should, be used throughout daily life.

Satvikananda
has been practising yoga for over twenty years and for most of this time under the
guidance of Swami Satyaratnananda. She trained as a FRYOG teacher and as a therapist with
the Yoga Biomedical Trust. She is also a Satyananda Karma Sannyasin, a practitioner of
Tera-Mai Reiki and Seichem healing and a student of Crystal Therapy.
As well as the classes Satvikananda does at the Yoga Therapy Centre she sees many people
privately for many diverse conditions both at the centre and in Surrey. She runs many
specialised classes in Surrey and Hampshire including pregnancy and baby yoga and runs
assorted day workshops. Satvikananda's classes are
varied in content embracing the whole of yoga not just the postures. She works closely
with pranayama, (breath and energy) and mantra (sound) as well as introducing some of the
more 'western friendly' cleansing practices. When teaching she also draws on the other
healing energies that she works closely with. To date she has produced six audio cassettes
covering various aspects of yoga which are readily available at the centre. |

Liz Taylor trained as a yoga
teacher with the British Wheel of Yoga and as a therapist with the Yoga Biomedical Trust.
She has been work at the yoga therapy centre since 1995. Originally trained as a musician,
she works with breath, movement and sound. This helps
the client to release tensions, and direct energy to the parts of the body which need it.
Working this way with the yoga stretches and asanas strengthens body and mind, awakening
the healing power within, and building stamina and mental focus. |
