| Dear Helen About five months ago my friend and I went to a travelling fair. Just for a laugh we went to a fortune teller. I don't really believe in all of that, but I thought it would be funny. My friend was the usual, you will be successful, but after problems you will marry etc. When I had my prediction, she had four things to say to me. She told me that I would receive love from the letters A to H, I will receive a gift, but will be bereaved and a special occasion will bring my downfall. I didn't think much of it and laughed it off. Then I met my boyfriend James, whose surname is Ashton and fell in love with him. He brought me some flowers and on the next day my dog died. I was quite upset, and then my friend reminded me of the fortune teller. I'm now very scared as James has asked me to marry him and it really feels right, but I'm extremely worried that this is the occasion and something awful will happen to me. Please tell me what to do! I am seriously worried. Anna |

| Dear Anna I can't tell you what to do, but as far as I know there is no real evidence to suggest that Fortune Tellers can actually tell the future. The evidence in your case as I see it is pretty flimsy as the letters A-H contain nearly all of the most frequently used letters of the alphabet, so the fortune teller was onto a near certainty with that. The flowers before the day your dog died, could quite easily be coincidence. I don't know how many times your boyfriend buys you things but if you think about it is probably quite a lot. Considering also that you would probably only be thinking about what the fortune teller was saying if you were in love and you felt bereaved, and most likely receiving quite a few gifts from your boyfriend. Again the fortune teller was onto a near certainty. The last has yet to happen, but if you really believe in fortune telling, you could probably bring your downfall upon yourself because your are so worried and so bring about the last part of what the fortune teller said. Also who hasn't been to a special occasion and done something stupid? Yet again the fortune teller is onto a near certainty. I suggest you tell James about your fears, if you have not already done so, as I am sure he will notice how worried you are. You never know between you, you might be able to sort something out. Lastly the future is as yet unknown anything could happen including what the fortune teller said. Can you go around the rest of your life trying to avoid special occasions. |
