Time to have your say! For serious stuff, sashay on over and join the great d-bate.

If you're up for something a bit more sociable and fancy a bit of a laugh, or want to tell people about something that's happening, check out our MessageBoard and leave your own message: the madder the better.

These two discussion areas are a bit primitive at the moment, but keep checking them out : at some point in the next few months D-Bate and MessageBoard will be moved onto a different server and then .... Ballyhooooo!

News and Schmooze

Octofest 98 - Mon 26 to Sat 31 Oct
Radio Octofest - Sat 17 Oct to Sun 1 Nov

In a unique initiative, Worcester's youth organisations are getting together to co-ordinate Octofest, a festival designed to encourage positive interaction between young people and the community. The festival's programme of events, which runs from Mon 26 to Sat 31 Oct to coincide with the Autumn half-term holiday, will be a showcase for youth achievement and provide opportunities for young people to try things they haven't done before in an atmosphere of festivity, tolerance, celebration and enjoyment.

Events already planned include a multimedia extravaganza in Worcester Cathedral, sports coaching sessions, street theatre and art installations, a carrom-board tournament, band nights and a mini-olympics. These will take place in different venues across the city.

At the heart of the festival will be Radio Octofest, an FM radio station operated by youth teams from all over Worcester. It is planned that the station will broadcast from a city-centre location, ideally on the High Street. A suitable location has not as yet been found: if anyone knows of a suitable empty shop or office that could be utilised during October, please contact Richard Wood at Youthline (FREECALL 0800 096 1425).

On Saturday 28 March and Saturday April 25th, the Octofest organisers will be running training days for people interested in taking responsibility for the radio production teams. If you know or work with a group of young people and you would like to get them involved, contact Octofest on 01905 726663 or Youthline on FREECALL 0800 096 1425 (weekdays, 4-10pm). First they will train team co-ordinators, and later on team members will be given the training that they need to actually produce the programmes. The training sessions will be held at Lindisfarne House, 4 Barbourne Terrace, Worcester between 10 am and 4 pm. There will be a small charge of £1.50 to cover coffee, tea and lunch, which will be provided.
